Court frames charges against Mishra in Lakhimpur killing
A Lakhimpur Kheri court on Tuesday framed charges against Union Minister Ajay Misra's
son Ashish Misra and 13 others in connection with the October 2021 violence in which
four farmers were killed. In the court of Additional District Judge Sushil Srivastava, all 13
defendants, including Ashish Misra, were made accused under relevant Sections
including murder and attempt to murder. Now a trial will start on the caseThe accused
have been charged under Sections 302, 307, 326, and 147 of the Indian Penal Code
(IPC).
On October 3, 2021, eight people were killed in Tikunia in Lakhimpur Kheri during
the violence that erupted when farmers were protesting against Uttar Pradesh Deputy
Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to the area.
Four farmers were mowed down by an SUV, in which Ashish Misra was seated,
according to the Uttar Pradesh Police FIR.
Following the incident, the driver and two BJP workers were allegedly lynched by
angry farmers. A journalist also died in the violence.
